The widespread presence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the near future is already inevitable. Even the coronavirus pandemic has contributed to the development of AI. Probably quite a few of us are wondering if maybe it’s high time to get some new skills that a robot can’t replace.

Fun fact: At www.willrobotstakemyjob.com you can check the approximate % chance of automation of your chosen profession, i.e. the probability of being taken over by robots. For example, for Customer Service employees it is 87%. The United States leaves the competition far behind because it is home to the largest number of AI-related startups.

The main goal of implementing AI in the logistics industry – and beyond – is to make everyday life easier. About 60% of Americans are confident in artificial intelligence, which is high compared to other countries. According to a McKinsey & Company analysis, as much as 65% of the work done in the logistics industry can be entrusted to machines. Already today, robots pack and stack goods on shelves, and technology is aiming for autonomous vehicles to be responsible for transportation in the future.

American confidence in artificial intelligence

A new term came into circulation in 2011 – Logistics 4.0. It is closely related to the beginning of the so-called fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0), the beginning of which dates back to 2013. The end and the beginning of previous industrial revolutions were marked by breakthroughs in technology – this case is no different. Among other things, ubiquitous computing and human-machine communication are starting the next new generation of the industry as well as logistics. Big data, Internet of Things (IoT), and Internet of Services (IoS) are the main, one can say, flagship technologies of the fourth industrial revolution. We make our contribution to the idea of automation. Our EasyCargo load planning software, in addition to determining the optimal loading plan and visualizing it, can generate reports and calculate the axle loads of the loading area.

AI primary benefits to companies

Probably for many readers reading this post, a certain issue comes to mind; artificial intelligence vs. jobs. As many companies and experts claim – AI will provide 97 million new jobs that will be created across 26 countries by 2025. Qualifications will play a major role in the recruitment process, so keeping up with the changes is key. The logistics sector will continue to need employees involved in planning processes.

In the next article, we will focus on the trends that will be at the forefront of future logistics. As for now, there is nothing left but to observe the new era of the logistics industry and its changes, which are virtually endless, let alone slowing down 🙂
